2016, A Year In Review

It’s time to say goodbye to 2016 and welcome with open arms the New Year, 2017!

There are a lot of Year in Review lists out there to remind you of the events this past year, but here is one that Google created called “Year in Search 2016”. It contains a video as well as lists of the top searches of the year in different categories.

It is often easy to look back at the year and see titles of events that inspire dread or a sense of hopelessness. While the headline events of the year may not have been rosy, if you take a closer look in your local papers and communities, stories of hope abound. For every negative headline that grabs our attention, there are plenty of other stories of love, community, and selflessness that are all around you. They aren’t splashed across the front page, but may be on page 10, or even tucked away in the back pages of your magazines and newspapers.

“17-year-old high school student visits a different WWII Veteran every day after school to record their stories and thank them for their service”

“Bus driver buys hats and gloves for students who can’t afford them”

“After 89-year-old is evicted, a neighbor buys back her home”

“Couple brings gift of hearing to impaired across the globe”

“Local restaurant gets youth off streets, into kitchen.”

There are stories like these across the globe every day. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help others. And if you don’t feel there is in your community, then make your own good news. Volunteer with a charity, mentor a student, give of your time or your money, but don’t succumb to the negative news that is sure to be in front of you every day.

Here’s to a happy and healthy New Year!

Until next time, the team at Coyle Financial Counsel.
